Ludlow, Shropshire

Ludlow – original home of the country’s Slow Food Movement and (quite rightly) Shropshire’s gastronomic capital.

John Betjeman said Ludlow was "the loveliest town in England" and Country Life described it as "the most vibrant small town in the Country". Both were right of course! Ludlow has a lively market scene, food fairs, speciality food shops and more restaurants and inns than you can shake a fork at. With over 500 listed buildings, mainly Georgian or half-timbered, Ludlow is also a feast for the eyes.

Once the home of Kings, Queens and Princes Ludlow Castle has been described as "the epitome of what a castle ought to be" – overlooking the heart of the town Ludlow Castle is now used as a regular venue for festivals and events throughout the year including: The Ludlow & Marches Food & Drink Festival is held every September, and the Medieval Christmas Fair in November.

The Ludlow Museum gives a history of the town and St Laurence's Church is the custodian of the Ashes of A.E.Housman, the celebrated poet and author of "A Shropshire Lad".
