Cleobury Mortimer, Shropshire

Set on the flanks of the Clee Hills

Cleobury Mortimer is set on the side of the Clee Hills - Titterstone Clee and the more dominant Brown Clee which has the highest summit south of the Pennines. Brown Clee also has the highest bakery in England – the Shropshire Brown is a local speciality, baking at such altitude presumably means no self -raising flour is required!

Cleobury Church has a crooked spire and walls that lean at an alarming angle. The main street curves gently down to the River Rea. The town is remarkable for the number of its pubs (this seems to be a common theme running in most South Shropshire towns). Here even the Street names are reminders of vanished inns.

Indulge in some of the excellent cakes, pork pies and organic foods – you can always walk them off by a stroll up one of the Clee Hills!
