DescriptionExplore, enjoy and step back in time at the SVR! Exciting steam trains, fantastic events and plenty to explore – the Severn Valley Railway has all the ingredients for a great day out. More than 250,000 visitors each year step on board one of the SVR’s heritage steam locomotives for a journey of adventure along the stunning 16-mile line, from Kidderminster in Worcestershire to Bridgnorth in Shropshire.
Passengers can hop on and off to explore any of the SVR’s six historic stations or head to The Engine House Visitor Centre at Highley, packed with interactive exhibits, including the railway’s reserve collection of full-size steam locomotives. While there, visitors can meet the engine that collided with a camel, learn about how the SVR works, sort the mail in the travelling post office and get hands-on with a wealth of interactive displays.
The Engine House’s Flag & Whistle Food Stop restaurant is perfect for refuelling while enjoying panoramic views of the stunning Severn Valley and the outdoor, railway-themed play area is great for kids to burn-off some energy.
If full-size steam trains weren’t enough, people can take a ride on the Coalyard Miniature Railway at Kidderminster or marvel at the Paddock Garden miniature railway at Hampton Loade – in operation on selected dates, weather permitting.
This year, visitors can also enjoy the brand new refreshment room at Bridgnorth, opening in the summer.
Anyone looking for a day out with a difference can head to any of the SVR’s fantastic range of events, including spring and autumn steam galas, Step Back to the 1940s weekends, Peep Behind the Scenes, Ghost Trains and the much-loved Santa Steam Specials.
Steam Trains run daily between May and October, and at weekends and in school holidays from February to December.
