Try your hand at heritage restoration using lime mortor

Try your hand at heritage restoration using lime mortor in South Shropshire
This Sunday 14th September 2014 we are running a hands on introductory session with Ian Storey, of CBS Conservation, in the use of lime mortor, as part of the Snailbeach Mines Heritage Open Days.

The session will include a short tour of Snailbeach Mine to give an overview of the forthcoming building conservation works, an introduction to the use of lime mortar, and some hands on work.

Jon Bielstein, Education Officer for the Stiperstones and Corndon Hill Country Landscape Partnership Scheme, explains “This is an excellent opportunity to find out more about heritage restoration and the use of lime mortor. We are holding two sessions this Sunday, 10am-12noon and 1pm-3pm (cost £7.50 each). If you come to the first session you can stay and practice the hands on work in the afternoon.”

It is also a great introduction to the four day lime mortor course, which is being organised by Jon, and will run every Wednesday in October, 10am – 4.30pm. This course forms part of the restoration works at Snailbeach Mine, in partnership with the Stiperstones & Corndon Hill Country Landscape Partnership Scheme.

Jon continues “We want to give participants the skills and confidence to help undertake ongoing maintenance projects at the mines site, on local church walls, and other heritage sites as part of the work of the Stiperstones and Corndon Landscape Partnership Scheme.”

Places are limited for on lime mortor taster session this Sunday 14th, so please contact Jon as soon as possible on 01938 561741, or email jon.bielsein@shropshire.gov.uk.

Meet at the Snailbeach Lead Mines Visitors' Centre. (nearest Post code SY5 0NS) Park at the Snailbeach Village hall car park and walk up to the site. Snailbeach village hall is serving refreshments over the heritage weekend.
