The Calendar Girls are coming to Shropshire

The Calendar Girls are coming to Shropshire
A local food producer and retailer is bringing a group of very famous ladies to Shropshire to raise money for charity.

The Ludlow Food Centre has been working with Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research throughout 2013 and has planned a unique fundraising event for November.  On November 26th The Calendar Girls will visit the Food Centre’s Ludlow Kitchen cafe to tell the story of how they bared all for charity.  Edward Berry, Managing Director at the Food Centre, explains,

‘We have been raising money for our charity of the year throughout 2013 and we wanted to do one more big push ahead of Christmas.  The Calendar Girls have such an amazing story and when we had the opportunity to bring them to Shropshire we couldn’t resist’

To raise money the Food Centre is holding an ‘Afternoon Tea With The Calendar Girls’ so people can hear their story. Their story has, for over 14 years, touched many people that have been affected by blood cancer.  It is one of loss, friendship and strength that so many can relate to. The Girls began their journey after Angela Baker tragically lost her husband, John, to non-Hodgkin lymphoma and the close-knit group of life-long friends from Cracoe in the Yorkshire Dales banded together to support Angela and her family through such a devastating time.

The Girls’ unusual and headline grabbing fundraising choice: to pose naked with some carefully selected WI themed props for a calendar, has gained invaluable awareness for the work of Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research; reaching many people affected by blood cancer who may not otherwise have known about this life-saving work.

The Food Centre hope that all of the £15 tickets will sell out and that the money raised will continue to help fund the valuable research undertaken by their charity of the year.  Mr Berry says,

‘We chose Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research as our charity of year when one of our farmers was taken severely ill with Leukaemia.  Sadly we lost him only weeks ago but this has made us all the more determined to help the charity find ways to save those like him.’

Ludlow Kitchen, the Centre’s cafe, will hold the event on Tuesday, November 26th at 3pm.  There will be handmade cakes, sandwiches and plenty of tea for those who wish to hear the Girls’ story. Tickets for this event are available from Ludlow Food Centre on 01584 856 000.
