Support Fern Britton as she cycles through Shropshire #Challenge 57

Support Fern Britton as she cycles through Shropshire #Challenge 57
TV presenter and author Fern Britton will be cycling 57 miles a day from John O'Groats to Lands End from May 1st to the 21st, hoping to raise at least £57,000 to fund research into the prevention of miscarriage in pregnancy. And you can join her!

As Fern saddles up for her toughest cycle challenge yet, #Challenge57, she is calling on support from cycling enthusiasts and well-wishers to join her on part (or all!) of the route.

Fern Britton is no stranger to a challenge. As proud Patron of Genesis Research Trust whose Chairman is Professor Robert Winston, Fern has taken part in cycling challenges all over the world. This one's much closer to home, but no less daunting. Fern is taking on the 1,000 mile cycle challenge from John O’Groats to Lands End in aid of Genesis Research Trust. At the age of 57, she has decided to cycle for 21 days to raise funds for research into miscarriage. Surprisingly one in four pregnancies end in miscarriage and many couples who suffer the agony of miscarriage go on to have further miscarriages. Recurrent miscarriage affects 1-2% of couples in the UK. This can lead to physical trauma and psychological stress and a variety of complications in a subsequent ongoing pregnancy, including preterm delivery and low birth. Funds are required for vital research projects to help us understand why some women have multiple miscarriages.

Says Fern, “This is one of the greatest personal challenges for me, and possibly you. Together we can do it and together we might just get closer to stopping the heartbreak of miscarriage.”

The money Fern raises from the #Challenge57 ride will help Genesis Research Trust fund research into miscarriage, carried out by scientists based at Imperial College London.

Fern's cycle challenge will start at John O’Groats on May 1st and see her cycle through the Scottish highlands, the Trossachs, the Lake District, Dartmoor, down through the country to finish at Land's End on May 21st. Stage five (May 14th) will see her being welcomed to Shropshire as she leaves Manchester for Market Drayton in the north of the county (a journey of 64 miles). On May 15th Fern and her fellow cyclists get set for a scenic day of cycling (approx. 57 miles). Mid-morning they are due to reach Shrewsbury, before heading on to Ironbridge and on to Bridgnorth and into Wyre Forest National Nature Reserve.
