STIR UP YOUR CHRISTMAS PUDDING AND CELEBRATE THE CHRISTMAS SEASON IN MORTIMER COUNTRY in South Shropshire
Traditional Country Christmas events which welcome visitors can be found throughout this deeply rural area set on the borders of north Herefordshire and south Shropshire in the run up to Christmas.

Local tourism group Mortimer Country Ltd are keen to welcome visitors to take a relaxing break in this beautiful area to experience the magic of a country Christmas. Visitors can take advantage of one of the pre - Christmas special offers - to book a Christmas shopping break at the Milebrook House Hotel, a special Christmas party at The Lion Hotel, Leintwardine. or stay at one of Mortimer Country’s historic farmhouses & B&Bs. All the details for the events and accommodation can be found on www.exploremortimercountry.com

In the weeks before Christmas you can get in the mood for Christmas & indulge in Christmas Shopping at the Ludlow Medieval Christmas Fair,(23-24 November) Aardvark Books Christmas Event (8 December) or the craft shops of our market towns of Ludlow and Leominster. Listen to Medieval Christmas music at the Fleur de Lys concert at Leintwardine Church (23 November). You can even make your own vintage gifts at a sewing break at the Milebrook House Hotel (28-29 November), or buy a Christmas gift voucher for a summer cycling holiday from Wheely Wonderful Cycling.

The area is renowned for its food & drink – so join in our Stir up Sunday celebrations at Elton church on 24 November. This is the traditional Sunday for making the Christmas Pudding, with the whole family taking turns to stir the pudding clockwise whilst making a secret wish. To stir anti clockwise – ‘widdershins’ - was asking for trouble! Stock up with Christmas locally produced artisan food gifts from the local butcher AH Griffiths in Leintwardine, the Ludlow Food Centre and Ludlow Markets.

Work up an appetite by walking the Mortimer Trail, or take a pub walk from the Baron At Bucknell – who have a special booklet of 10 walks and a great value Christmas menu from 29th November .

As we approach Christmas join in the Christingle service at Leinthall Starkes (8 December) and Leintwardine church’s candlelit Frost Fair with mulled cider, hot seasonal food and crafts (30 November) or visit Hereford Cathedrals’ Advent Carol services. Lastly all the churches of Wigmore Abbey offer a warm welcome to visitors to their Christmas Carol services and the local Hunts put on a spectacular display on the Boxing Day meets at The Lion Hotel & Ludlow Castle.
