Mortimer Country Walking Festival in South Shropshire
Walk the Drover Road Sunday 11 May

Ludlow 21 is organising a series of walks as part of the Mortimer Country Walking Festival this summer. The walks use the Castle Connect weekend bus to get out into the countryside. The first event will be following a walk from Wayne Smith's 'The Drovers' Roads of the Middle Marches' through to Leintwardine via Bucknell where the group will meet the author at the Sun Inn, mid afternoon. The author will explain his fascination for the old ways, and especially cross border drove roads used to bring sheep and cattle to Ludlow market in decades gone by.

Meet the walk leader at Assembly Rooms, Ludlow at 10:10 for the 10:15 bus (Castle Connect) to Five Turnings.

It is an 8 mile walk with one steady climb at the outset otherwise easy going; people need to bring a packed lunch, but food will also be available at the Sun Inn, Leintwardine. Concessionary Pass or bus fare required. There is a Castle Connect bus back from Leintwardine at 16:35. Comments Gary Seymour of the Sun Inn: "People love to listen to those who have spent years researching about the local countryside and this brief talk does just that... if you are not able to join the walk Wayne will be at the Sun Inn at 3pm onwards to tell all about his book."
