Ludlow Food Centre named Midland's Best Food Retailer

Ludlow Food Centre named Midland's Best Food Retailer
A Shropshire food producer and retailer has won a prestigious regional award. 2015 is the second year that William Reed Business Media have run The Farm Shop & Deli Awards and yesterday it announced the regional winners in this year's awards. Shropshire's Ludlow Food Centre picked up the title of Midland's Best Food Retailer.

The Food Centre opened in 2007 and brought an entirely new concept to the world of farm shops and food halls. Surrounding its 4000 square foot food hall it has eight production kitchens with glass windows. These kitchens employ local people to hand make everything from cheese to bread and jam to pies. Managing Director, Edward Berry says

"We are overjoyed to win such a prestigious award. Being recognised amongst the calibre of competition in the region is both exciting and humbling. The dedication of our staff for the last eight years has helped us establish a business that our customers enjoy shopping in and that we are proud to be part of."

Butchery Manager, John Brereton and his team have won the Best Butchery in Britain Award in this year's Farm Shop & Deli Awards already meaning the business will collect at least two awards from the show in April. The Food Centre will also go in to the grand final and will hope to win the coveted title of 'Farm Shop & Deli Awards Retailer of the Year'.

Mr Berry adds "This marks a fantastic start to what we hope will be a great year for Ludlow Food Centre. Our aim for 2015 is to continue to produce award winning food for our customers and to be best in our field."

The production kitchens at the Food Centre boast Britain's Best Blue Cheese called Remembered Hills which is made by dairy team Dudley Martin and Paul Bedford using milk from the Centre's own cows. Darren Marsh & Tess Slater also produce world beating marmalade and have just picked up no less than six awards at the World Marmalade Festival.

As part of the Earl of Plymouth Estate just outside the foodie town of Ludlow, the Centre is part of a group of businesses including the Clive Restaurant With Rooms, two cafes including Ludlow Kitchen and Ludlow Pantry. The Food Centre now employs over 125 local people and offers apprenticeships to young, ambitious foodies who want to start a career in the food industry.
