From Colliery to Country Park. The story of Severn Valley Country Park in pictures
24th February 2015
Severn Valley Country Park opened in June 1992, after a 6 year reclamation project. The history of the site begins in the 1800s with coal mining in Highley. In 1936 coal production moved to Alveley when, at its peak, 300,000 tonnes of coal were being produced annually. This fascinating talk, given by the chairman of Severn Valley Country Park Supporters Group, looks at the history, development and wildlife of the park from its inception to present day. If you were an early visitor to the country park look out for yourself in old photographs!
The talk will be held in the visitor centre at Severn Valley Country Park on Thursday 12th March 2015 starting at 7.30pm.
