Ludlow Food Centre Reaches UK Farm Shop Finals

Ludlow Food Centre Reaches UK Farm Shop Finals
Ludlow Food Centre in Shropshire has been chosen from hundreds of farm shops across the UK as a finalist in the prestigious Farm Retail Awards from FARMA.

The Food Centre is the only retailer to be shortlisted for three categories: the Best on-farm Butchery Award, the Own & Local Award, and the highly coveted Farm Retailer of the Year Award.

The Farm Retail Awards, or FARMAs, recognise the UK’s best farm shops, where commitment to farming and local foods combines with expert retail skills in inspirational and innovative ways. Potential candidates for the each award are judged by trade professionals and fellow retailers, who take into account not only the customer’s experience, but retail and management skills.

Ludlow Food Centre is a unique food experience. The shop floor is surrounded by eight glass fronted production kitchens where shoppers can see the food they’re buying being made from scratch. 50% of everything on sale is made onsite, including preserves, cheese, butter, ice-cream, bread and baked goods, and over 400 deli items. The lamb, beef and pork on sale in the full-service butchery comes straight from the Food Centre’s Oakly Park Estate, as does the milk used to make the Centre’s dairy products. In total, 80% of the food on offer comes from Shropshire and the surrounding counties of Herefordshire, Worcestershire and Powys.

“We are very excited to have Ludlow Food Centre as a finalist in the 2013 FARMA Awards,” commented Rita Exner, FARMA Secretary. “It is a truly unique farm retail outlet, bold in its ambitions and confident in its achievements. In the next round of judging, the judges will be looking in more depth at all the finalists, taking into account both the customer experience and the retailing and management skills behind the scenes. We wish everyone at Ludlow Food Centre the best of luck for the next round of judging.”
