Festival of the Gloucester Old Spot
2nd July 2012
The team at the Food Centre along with other Old Spot fanatics are holding a celebration that will include workshops, cooking demonstrations, competitions, local producers and fun for all the family. There will be the ubiquitous pig roast and BBQ but visitors will also able to see the pigs, take part in tasting workshops, make their own sausages and learn skills from award winning producers.
There are 60 places available for a breakfast workshop where visitors can enjoy a full breakfast in the Centre’s Windsor Room and taste different varieties of coffee roasted on the premises. This will include Gloucester Old Spot bacon, sausage, black pudding and white pudding all made by the Centre’s butchers along with local eggs, tomatoes and mushrooms. On July 20th at 7pm the Food Centre are having a pre-event for just 50 people to enjoy a Gloucester Old Spot themed 3 course meal in the their Conservatory Barn Cafe. The meal will be cooked by head chef Mark Jones who has previously worked with Michelin starred Claude Bosi and promises to be an excellent experience.
There will be games for children including a ‘Pig Hunt’ and on the evening before the event there will be an Old Spot themed dinner menu in the Food Centre’s Conservatory Barn Cafe. Tom Hunt, Marketing Manager for the Centre explains,
‘We want to showcase the quality of British Pork and in our opinion Gloucester Old Spot is the best. This is our opportunity to educate people about real food and the importance of provenance. All our pork is from our own farm and because we have a slaughter house just 6 miles away it never leaves our sight. Most of all we want to have fun and create a great summer festival atmosphere’
The Festival of The Gloucester Old Spot takes place July 21st and is free of charge to all visitors. For tickets to the Breakfast Workshop or the Old Spot Dinner call 01584 856 000 or visit www.ludlowfoodcentre.co.uk
