Businesses Work Together to Promote Tourism

Businesses Work Together to Promote Tourism
Mortimer Country Ltd, a group of forty businesses on the South Shropshire borders and North Herefordshire are working together to encourage tourism by enlisting more businesses in the area to join them on their new website

The group, which covers the Teme Valley west of Ludlow - a 7 mile radius of Wigmore Castle, formed 13 years ago as a way to raise the profile of this particular part of Shropshire and Herefordshire, and works closely with Shropshire Tourism.

Kay Dartnell from Wheely Wonderful Cycling near Ludlow, a founding member of Mortimer Country Ltd, said "The group formed 13 years ago and we now have forty members, from B&Bs and self catering businesses to pubs and teashops. We cover the Teme Valley and a 7 mile radius of Wigmore Castle and any businesses with an interest in tourism is very welcome to join us. As well as having the website we also produce a free brochure for visitors to encourage them to visit.

"The new website, designed and developed for us by Shropshire Tourism, has lots of information about the area such as history and walks plus a new interactive map where visitors can find accommodation, shops, places to eat and drink and attractions. We think it’s great. As well as encouraging new members to join us we would also really like to encourage local people to send details of events that welcome visitors to this area to so that we can add them to the website, and for other local websites and businesses to link to . There is always lots going on in this area, and we want to make sure all our visitors know about it. The next big events are Father's Day activities at Oaker Wood, Leintwardine Open Gardens 29-30 June and the Mortimer Country Food Fair at Brampton Bryan on 13 July - read all about them on the website."
